Kim Simpson has been an educator in Rock Hill School District 3 since 1993. She has taught first grade, second grade, Reading Recovery, and currently serves as a Reading Coach at Mount Holly Elementary School.
Kim graduated Northwestern High School in 1987, then went on to earn a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education at the College of Charleston in 1991. In 2005, Kim earned a Masters of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop University. She continued her education, eventually earning her Master’s plus 30. Kim is a member of the International Literacy Association as well as Palmetto Reading Council, which she currently serves as the organization’s recording secretary.
During the 2003-2004 school year, Kim was recognized as Lesslie Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year and during the 2010-2011 school year as Mount Holly Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year. In addition, Kim was awarded Palmetto Reading Council’s Distinguished Teacher of Reading during the 2006-2007 school year.
Kim has a passion for learning and hopes to instill that passion in the lives of others she works with, both children and adults. As a result of this passion, she continues to participate in professional development coursework involving her current role as a Reading Coach within Rock Hill School District.
Kim resides in Rock Hill South Carolina with her husband, Brown. She has a nineteen year old daughter who is currently attending the Bridge to Clemson program at Tri County Technical College. Her oldest daughter, a senior at Clemson University, will graduate in May.
