Northwestern High School Media Center encourages and engages students in reading, viewing, and listening to various types of media for understanding and enjoyment. The media center is an integral part of curriculum support. We provide a welcoming and safe place for students to interact before school and during lunches. This space is also an excellent alternative to the classroom, providing a larger learning space, and we encourage teachers to utilize it. The collection is developed and evaluated collaboratively to support the school's curriculum and to meet the diverse learning needs and interests of our students. We have over 18,000 books, as well as various databases and electronic resources, such as SC Discus, Sora, and Online Salem Press. Our collection can always be accessed online via our Follett Destiny Online Catalog. We also have an excellent research resource that was created by the RHSD Middle and High School Media Specialists in a collaborative effort. All of our resources can be accessed easily here on our website, as well as through Canvas. We highly encourage all teachers, but especially 9th-grade students, to visit us and attend a media center orientation. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with teachers for specific lessons based on research, reference skills, and any other ways we can help.
