• James “Woody” Funderburk graduated from Northwestern High School in 1997.  Among many achievements, James was a 4-year letterman on the varsity soccer team where he was All-State and All-Region on the Region III Championship teams.  He started his academic career at The Citadel in Charleston, SC before transferring to Coker College in Hartsville, SC.  While at Coker, James was a starting goalkeeper for the Cobras’ NCAA Division II soccer team.  as well as member of the Student Union Association being the Chair of the Comedy Groups and Co-Chair of the Bandfest Music festival. James graduated from Coker College in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. James did his post graduate work at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Information Systems in 2011.

    James’ professional journey as a networking and cyber security expert started at Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville, SC as a Network Engineer where he was responsible for all the company’s Wide Area Networks and Local Area Networks in the US, Canada, and Mexico.  James moved to Baltimore, MD, where he worked for Black & Decker, Inc. as a Senior Wireless Network Engineer.  While at Black & Decker he was responsible for designing and managing all wireless networks in North America as well as designing and managing all infrastructure for mobile devices to connect to the corporate network world-wide.

    In 2010, James furthered his cutting-edge work in communications engineering with BlackBerry Ltd. as the lead BlackBerry Architect for the United States Federal Government, Civilian and Department of Defense agencies. Following his time with BlackBerry, James moved up to join General Dynamics IT to become their Federal Mobility Subject Matter Expert, in support of the US Dept. of Defense.  He finished that role in 2015.

    Presently, James works for B&D Consulting, Inc., as the Director of Enterprise Mobility Solutions.  B&D Consulting is an industry leading cyber engineering firm located in Hagerstown, MD.  At B&D, James leads a team of talented mobility engineers that design the most complex mobility infrastructures in the world for the US Department of Defense.  These mobility infrastructures are designed to allow the warfighter the ability to have secure mobile communications for voice and data while they are missions. James also performs the role of Corporate Information Technology Security Manager for B&D’s internal Information Technology department and B&D’s Director of National Security Programs.

    In his various professional roles, James has had the honor of serving our great nation and the privilege to design and deploy the largest privately-run mobility infrastructure in the world.  James currently lives in Baltimore, MD and has two sons, Grant (9) and Landon (7) who keep him busy with their sports and activities.
