I started teaching in 1994 after receiving my Bachelor's Degree from Winthrop University. I moved to Lancaster, California and began teaching special education. I received my Master's Degree from California State University, Bakersfield in the area of special education. I taught special education for 14 years before switching to general education in Rock Hill. I now teach 5th grade language arts and absolutely love it!
Last year I received my Master's Degree in administration from the University of Phoenix. I have been the site Director for the after school Challenger program for 3 years. My goal is to one day become the Director of Special Education somewhere.
In 2014, I helped charter the Educators Optimist Club at Independence. Members consist of teachers, administrators, and parents at our school who want to work with children and become their mentors. We invite children to many events throughout the school year and during the summer. We are always looking for new members, so please contact me if you are interested in becoming involved.
On a personal note, I am the mother of two amazing young men. David is 24, and James is 22. I became engaged last December to the love of my life, Kelly. We are planning an October wedding. We enjoy traveling with family, going to the beach, and just spending time together.
Last year I taught 5th grade ELA and loved it. This year I will be teaching fourth grade, but don't worry, this is not my first "go-round" in this grade level. At Independence I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I am looking forward to working with all of you.Â
