College Admissions Tests
The ACT and SAT are college admissions tests used by most colleges and universities as part of the admissions process. These tests help schools to evaluate and compare students who attend different high schools. The PSAT is a practice version of the SAT which can qualify juniors for the .
Students are encouraged to take PSAT in the fall of their sophomore and junior year for practice. PSAT is offered at South Pointe in October each year. Sophomores can test free of charge, and juniors must sign up and pay the designated fee. It is recommended that students begin taking ACT and/or SAT in their junior year. However, students may test at any time.
ACT and SAT offer scheduled test dates throughout the year. Students must register for the tests in advance and pay the designated fee. However, both the ACT and SAT have fee waiver programs which allow eligible students to use test fee waivers and receive college application fee waivers as well. If you are eligible for free or reduced lunch, see Mr. Rogers in Guidance to discuss receiving fee waivers.
