Ms. Heather Turner
All About Ms. Turner!!
Mrs. Turner started her teaching career in 1998. She earned her Bachelors ‘98 and Masters ‘07 in Music Education from UNC Greensboro. She has maintained National Board Certification since 2003. She began teaching in NC and joined the RHSD in 2007. She has taught elementary music and orchestra in the district and is beyond thrilled to be teaching band again with the amazing related arts team at STMS. Since joining the district in 2007, she has also been working with the South Pointe Band of Thunder and it is a joy to finally see her own students continue in band in HS at all three successful RHSD HS Band programs!
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, James and Lizzy, and traveling. They also find joy in their three ridiculous dogs who constantly prove we can’t have nice things.
What is your reason WHY?
I know how important the band was to me in middle school. It was my safe space to be myself and grow in my talent. Besides learning how to play an instrument, I learned so many life skills that made me who I am today: Dedication, Teamwork, Perseverance, Discipline and Rigor. I met my best, lifelong friends (and my husband) in band and I still keep in touch with my band directors.
I absolutely LOVE teaching middle school band and taking a student from point zero to however far they want to go! The bandroom is a great place to shine!
