Mrs. Emily Hyatt

I am excited to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. This marks my 8th year in education and my 8th year here at Independence Elementary. My journey with Independence began as a 5th grade teacher, where I spent 6 wonderful years fostering a love for learning. Last year, I served as the Dean of Student Leadership, and I’m thrilled to step into the role of Assistant Principal this year.

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL, and I still visit home frequently to stay connected with my roots. I received a softball scholarship to attend Lander University, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. It was at Lander where I also met my husband, Chris Hyatt, a native of Rock Hill. After completing my undergraduate degree, I pursued my Master’s in Educational Leadership at the University of South Carolina.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my 1-year-old son, CJ, and our lovable Golden Doodle, Tina. My previous leadership roles at Independence included serving as the Challenger Director and the Leader in Me Coordinator, which have all contributed to my growth and understanding of our school community.

I am here to support and assist you in any way possible and am eagerly looking forward to what the 2024-2025 school year has in store for us. I firmly believe that all our students at Independence are leaders, and I am committed to helping them use the 7 Habits to excel and grow.

Let’s make this year a great one!
