District-Sponsored Field Studies Overview

  • ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is proud to offer grade-specific, standards-aligned field studies that bring learning to life for our students! These engaging, hands-on experiences connect students with local sites and resources to deepen their understanding of classroom concepts through interactive, real-world exploration. Each field study is thoughtfully designed to align with grade-level standards, ensuring that students benefit from meaningful, curriculum-based learning outside the classroom.

Our Instructional Department fully funds these field studies, including all transportation costs, making it possible for every student to participate. These trips not only enhance learning but also foster curiosity, engagement, and a love for discovering the world beyond the classroom walls.

Museum of York County

  • Our third grade students across the district visit the York County Museum to strengthen their understanding of weather considerations during seasons as well as describing climate patterns in different regions of the world.  Students participate in an experience to make a claim about the effectiveness of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard during this field study.

Kicking With Confidence

  • Each year, all 4th grade students have the exciting opportunity to participate in "Kicking with Confidence," our district’s swim experience, offered in partnership with the YMCA and the Rock Hill Aquatics Center. This valuable field study is designed to build water safety skills and swimming confidence for every student, regardless of prior experience.

Certified and trained swim instructors lead each session, tailoring instruction to meet students at their individual skill levels. Parents are encouraged to check with their child's school for specific field study dates. "Kicking with Confidence" reflects our district’s commitment to student well-being, safety, and confidence-building through engaging, supportive experiences.

BackCountry In Revolt

  • This is the fourth-grade field study. We partner with the Cultural & Heritage Museums. Students will take a trip to York County’s Historic Brattonsville to learn about the Revolutionary War. Students will be challenged to consider why some people became Patriots while others remained Loyalists. They will learn about 18th-century militia drills and participate in a guided tour of the Huck’s Defeat Battlefield. Additionally, students will learn about the impact of war on women, children, and the enslaved.

Carroll School

  • This is the fifth-grade field study. Students visit our district's Rosenwald school, the Carroll School. Students learn about life during the Great Depression as told from an African-American perspective.
