Derek Shoup
Derek Shoup is originally from Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University, where he was a 4-year varsity member of the Men’s Track and Field Team. He earned his teaching certificate and Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from The University of North Carolina-Charlotte and a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from Wingate University.
Mr. Shoup served the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for 18 years. He started his career as a teacher’s assistant and Track and Field Coach with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and quickly earned a class of his own and eventually became a Dean of Students. In each of his roles, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and is now a Stallion at South Pointe High School.
Mr. Shoup is very busy in his free time cheering on and supporting his 3 children with their academics and athletics. Mr. Shoup is married. His wife is also an educator. She is currently teaching middle school science at Charlotte Latin.
