Ms. Andrea Allen
Hello! I am Andrea Allen and I am excited to join the Oakdale Elementary staff as a Reading Recovery teacher this year! I am an educator who believes in the power of early intervention and am committed to helping all students reach their greatest potential. Marie Clay sums up my vision for teaching and learning best when she writes, “If children are apparently unable to learn, we should assume that we have not as yet found the right way to teach them.” I look forward to working with parents, students, and staff to support our growing readers and writers at Oakdale!
I began teaching in Rock Hill School District in 2001 after graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop University. I have a Masters in Literacy Education from Clemson University and am also National Board, Literacy Coach, and Reading Recovery Certified. In my 21 years with RHSD, I have taught first grade for 7 years (Rosewood Elementary) and second grade for 1 year (RH Virtual Academy), but have found my true passion in my 13 years as a Reading Recovery Teacher (Rosewood Elementary, Finley Road Elementary, and York Road Elementary).
This summer, my husband and I celebrated 19 years of marriage! We live in Rock Hill with our two boys, Holden (14) and Luke (9), and our two rescue cats, Whiskers and Kitty Meow Meow. We enjoy spending time with family and friends, camping, hiking, swimming, and traveling!
