Mrs. Stephanie Charles

Hi! My name is Stephanie Charles! Many of your students may know me as Ms. V, this past June I got married! I am so excited to be your child’s 3rd grade teacher this school year! This will be my 16th year as an educator, 8th year at IDES. I believe in creating a classroom environment where we support and build each other up to be our very best! To help each child find their genius and become a leader in our classroom, school, and community!

Career:

I attended Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York. I graduated in January 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (1-6) & Special Education (1-6). I began my first teaching position in the fall of 2008 at the Center for Discovery in New York. I spent five years there working with students (ages 5-16) who were diagnosed with severe autism. In August 2013, I moved to South Carolina where I began my teaching career at Joseph W. Grier Academy as the K-3 exceptional children’s teacher, then later moving into a 4th grade literacy teaching position at the same school. After 4 years at J.W. Grier, I was blessed with the opportunity to move closer to home and teach here at Independence. In addition to my duties as an educator, I am a RHSD Mentor Teacher supporting first- and second-year teachers, an NTI (New Teacher Induction) Facilitator for our district, and I have also been a Girls on the Run Coach for the past 10 years (and counting)! 

Family:

My family consists of my husband Michael and our three children; Zenian who is 14, and beginning his freshman year at Rock Hill High, Zarion is 13, and going into 8th grade, and Nevaeh is 11, and going into 6th grade. They have all attended IDES as well! We also have a dog (Scrappy) and a cat (Mickey).
