Elise Sookram
Hello, my name is Elise Sookram. I have lived in Maryland for over 25 years, and have a bachelor's degree as well as a master's degree from the University of Maryland. I spent many years working in elementary schools advancing the reading and math skills of ESOL as well as mainstream students. In 2021, I completed my doctorate in Education. I studied the counseling interventions of Hispanic community college students. My interests have always been around different minority groups in the public education sector, looking at language and cultural barriers. Recently, I completed training in Early literacy through Reading Recovery training in Rockhill, SC. You can find me at church cook-outs, art exhibits, floral arrangement classes, hiking, tutoring students in reading, cooking cuisine from all parts of the US, coding robots groups, or in a room building circuit boards. In 2024-2025, I hope to inspire the students of York Road Elementary to dream big.
